Quill Gordon

A

Epeorus pleuralis (identity per the Muskegon chart; not confirmed for northern rivers)

Also called Epeorus, Early Quill.

A fast-water clinging mayfly that shows on Michigan charts from late May into July on the northern rivers and about May 10 on the Muskegon. Epeorus duns often shed the nymphal shuck on the bottom and rise as winged adults, so a soft-hackle or wet fly swung through the riffles at hatch time can outfish a dry. When duns are on the water, a #12-14 gray-bodied parachute or Comparadun fished through pocket water is standard. Duns show on warm afternoons and into early evening.
