Rivers / Northeast Lower Peninsula
Au Sable River, South Branch (Mason Tract)
Cold, clear and spring-fed year-round, flowing north from Houghton Lake through the Mason Tract; a 50 F reading in late September is cited as typical of its thermal stability. Brown Drakes and Sulphurs drive the evening rises, Hex arrives in late June with mousing after dark, and Tricos carry September. The Chase Bridge to Lower High Banks reach is flies-only and no-kill.

Eggs in the drift
In February no eggs are in the drift here. Next up: white and longnose sucker eggs. Spawning follows water temperature rather than the hatch offset, so these months do not shift.
