Rivers / Upper Peninsula
Ontonagon River
A four-branch western U.P. system with brook, brown and rainbow trout, steelhead and lake-run salmon; the Middle Branch carries two Blue Ribbon segments. Hatches include Hex, Brown Drakes, black caddis and Hendricksons, with Sulphurs, Cahills, Isonychia and mahoganies. Steelhead typically start to run in the first few weeks of April, with November fall fish, and lake-run salmon show after mid-August. Trails to Trout says to add two to four weeks to northern-river dates.
