Rivers / Upper Peninsula
Chocolay River
A Marquette-area river that stays largely free of ice, with brown, rainbow and brook trout plus steelhead and salmon. It has reliable hatches of Hendricksons, March Browns, Cahills, Blue-Winged Olives and a variety of caddis, though Brown Drakes and Hex are uncommon. Pinks are the most reliable salmon (late August-September), steelhead are more prevalent starting in October and early May is the best spring window; Chinook and coho are diminishing.

Eggs in the drift
In July no eggs are in the drift here. Next up: Chinook salmon eggs. Spawning follows water temperature rather than the hatch offset, so these months do not shift.
